Bombings in Baghdad: 82 dead

Iraq might have experienced the bloodiest days of the recent months. 82 people lost their lives in 3 different attacks in just one day. The biggest attack in the country was realized in a Shiite district in the northwest of Baghdad.

Children were also wounded in the attack.

In the district of Hürriyet, 63 people lost their life from an explosion from a bomb loaded vehicle in park in a crowded market place. 63 people have lost their life and 75 people were wounded. Nobody took responsibility for the attack but the US army has indicated that the attack was carried out aimed with the aim of inciting the Sunni-Shiite clash by a Shiite group.

It has been recorded that this was the bloodiest attack in Bagdad in recent months. A salesman, who witnessed the attack, explained that the vehicle, which has exploded, has been parked next to a 2 floor building where the apartments are on the top and the shops are down below. The eye witness said that some buildings burned in the explosion.

The Iraqi police have indicated that 4 children and 5 women were among the people who died in the attack carried out in the district of Hürriyet.
The Iraqi government has announced that the bombing attack will not affect their resolution. In the written statement made by the Prime Minister Nuri el Maliki’s cabinet, it was stated that “the attack has the aim of boosting the morale of extremist groups which have fallen flat in Bagdad, Basra and Mosul”.
The government’s statement added “this event won’t affect our will and determination aimed at maintaining the success in the security area and at defeating the terrorists. It will increase the will to protect our province from terrorists, killers and illicit facts.
In a joint statement, the US Embassy and US army in Iraq also condemned the attack which they said was “barbarous” and have made the commitment to help the Iraqi security forces bring those behind this attack to justice. Steve Stover, a US military spokesman lieutenant-colonel, has said that he has intelligence concerning the fact that “there is a Shiite group under the leadership of one person called Haydar Mehdi Hadum El Favadi”.
