One Person is killed each week in the name of “Honor” in Istanbul
According to the Human Rights department report,
53 people were killed for “honor/moral laws” in Istanbul last year. Most of the
murders have been committed in the Marmara, Aegean and Central Anatolian regions.
There are 10 provinces where data was not collectible.
According to the Prime Ministry’s Human Rights Presidency’s (ÝHB) report
compiled from data sent by human rights associations of the provinces, more than
1,000 people have been killed for “honor/moral laws”.
The report noted that the number of men killed was higher than the number of
women killed, but the Prime Ministry’s Human Rights Presidency (ÝHB) does not
have a numerical breakdown of this determination.
53 people in one year in Istanbul
According to the report, 53 people were killed within this scope last year,
compared to 27 for 2006. The Prime Ministry’s Human Rights Presidency says that
it means that one person a week is killed on average due to this reason.
According to the Prime Ministry’s Human Rights Presidency, 294 people died in
the Marmara region, 214 in Central Anatolia, 130 people in Southeastern Anatolia,89
