Local Media Training Programs on “Individual Disarmament and News on Violence in Turkey”, which we, as Umut Foundation, initiated to make sure that the media, the fourth power, approaches the reflection of incidents related to violence and individual armament to the community with objective and professional criticism, have been continuing since 2007.
Previously, we have held these trainings in Diyarbakır, Rize, Eskişehir, Hatay and Kars; sixth of these trainings will be held at Dedeman Hotel in Gaziantep on Sunday December 6th, 2009. The training program, which all journalists from Gaziantep, Kilis, Kahramanmaraş, Osmaniye, Şanlıurfa, Adıyaman, Adana, Malatya and Hatay are invited to, will last for 1 day.
The schedule of the training program supported by the Friedreich Ebert Stiftung Association is constituted of 3 sections. In the morning session which will begin with the opening speeches, generally principles of journalism, media news on violence in terms of ethics and news on violence in terms of fear of crime will be discussed. In the second session, individual disarmament in terms of the right to live and the discourse of hatred in the media, as well as news on violence and the ethics issue in Germany in comparison with Turkey will be discussed.
