They fired guns instead of breaking a bottle of champagne while launching the ship to the sea
The first ship produced in Yalova Altınova Shipyard has been launched to the sea with a ceremony in which the former Minister of Environment and Forestry Osman Pepe participated. Some of the participants celebrated the launching of the ship to the sea by opening fire. The member of the Administrative Board and the General Director, Selim Selimoğlu, who spoke in the name of Naci Selimoğlu Group of Shipping Companies, said that they didn’t deviate from the target despite the crisis and added that they will continue the production. The former Minister of Environment and Forestry Osman Pepe stated that the global crisis has mainly affected the shipping and the maritime sector and he added: “We are in a period where the shipyards are inevitably obliged to decrease in desperation their manpower. The shipmen and the shipyards need morale and support. The maritime sector is one of the most important sectors in the world. We are a nation, a state that have lived offended to the sea for many years. However, even one ship wasn’t build in one year in the shipyards which are located in the Anatolia geography that is surrounded by sea on three sides; the large part of our import and export was made by foreign ships. The Justice and Development Party have encouraged the shipyards; we have removed the Private Consumption Tax on fuel. The shipyards have lived and seen their golden era with the Justice and Development Party. If these shipyards in the Mediterranean, the Black Sea are enlivened, it is thanks to Minister of Transport Binali Yıldırım who knows very well the maritime sector.”
