Mehmet AKTARAN

2009 was not a good year for the women, only in Istanbul, 16 women were killed by their husbands for claims such as “betrayal, hiding money from the husband, going out without permission, ignoring children, interrupting ironing and cooking”.  In the same year two men were victimized by their wives.
Last year in Istanbul there were 18 spouse murders committed. 16 women were killed by their husbands and two women killed their husbands. Almost all of the offenders told "I loved my spouse very much, I was wrong" in their statements. Told, “I could not control my nerves”.
Branch Directorate of Order Murder Office Authorities researched the reasons of spousal murders by examining investigation files in Istanbul. Last year in Istanbul 18 spousal murders were committed. 16 women were killed by their husbands and two women killed their husbands. Three men committed suicide after killing their wives.
In the research it is found that seven women of 16 were killed by their husbands for claims of betrayal.  All of the pretexts of the killing of women are for "legitimizing" the husbands.
“Betrayal, severe disagreement, lying to their husbands, meeting with others over the Internet without their husbands' knowledge, sending messages and talking on cell phones to others without their husbands' knowledge, the employed women do not want to share their wages with their husbands, hiding money from their husbands, leaving their houses by taking their children, going out by locking their children at home, the idea that they are ignoring their children, women interrupting housework such as cooking and ironing, the idea that their expectations are roused by imitating TV serial artists, issues of chit chat".

In front of the eyes of the children

One of the proposals to prevent this is to establish therapy consultation centers.   The authorities stating that meetings of awareness rising should be made in the schools for the parents and in the meetings information should be given to women about men and to men about women.
