Meryem Sökmen, 12 years old, wanted to send a note to her friend writing “I love you” on it. Her family became aware about the note taken by her teacher. After Meryem went to her house voice of three gun shootings were heard. According to the claims, Meryem committed suicide by the gun of her father who is a village guard because of her fear of moral tradition.
Primary school 5th grade student Meryem Sökmen, living in Somkaya Village of Doğubayazıt District of Ağrı province is claimed to committed suicide because of “fear” after an “I love you” note of her she had written to one of her friends is taken by her teacher and given to her village guard father. Meryem’s body is buried in her village with pain after the autopsy made in Trabzon Forensic Institution.
Meryem Sökmen living in Somkaya Village in the outskirts of Tendürek Mountain in Doğubayazıt on last 7 January morning went to school. According to the claims Meryem in the fourth lecture is caught by her class teacher R.Ç. when giving an “I love you” note to one of her friends. Meryem who was deeply influenced by the event did not enter in the fifth and sixth lectures and went to her house. And the teacher according to the claims gave the note to Meryem’s village guard father who is called to the school in order “no gossip is made in the classroom”,
She pulled the trigger of the Kalashnikov on her head
Meryem who did not go to school the next day went to the living room when she was alone with her mother at home and she pulled the trigger of the automatic Kalashnikov rifle belonging to her village guard father. Three consecutive bullets entering destroyed her head entering from the front. After the voice of gun is heard the crown gathering around the house called gendarmerie. Gendarmerie and Republican Prosecutor coming to the venue started an investigation about Meryem’s death. Meryem’s body after the autopsy made in Trabzon Forensic Institution is buried in the village graveyard on 9 January.
Her elder sister had hung herself 13 years ago
It is stated that another daughter of Muzaffer Sökmen, village guard and father of 4 girls and 4 boys, called as “Necla” committed suicide by hanging herself on 1997. Muzaffer Sökmen said he was not at home when his daughter shot herself and told, “Meryem did not go do school on Friday. While she was alone at home with her mother she shot herself with the village guard rifle belonging to me by entering the living room. Her mother found her daughter in blood after entering the room by hearing the voice of the rifle. I do not know much. If my daughter told there is someone whom she loved I would make her marry with him”.
